Reserves bounce back to beat the Stute

Lurgan Institute Reserves 1

Gilford Crusaders Reserves 2

GILFORD got off to the worst possible start, conceding an early goal.

On another day this might have caused the Gilford heads to drop however the complete opposite happened with Gilford restarting the game on top and getting a grip of the match.

Gilford pushed on to get that goal that would get them back into the game. This hard work paid off midway through the first half. With a great bit of attacking play the ball came to the feet of Christopher Magee who had his back to goal, only to turn brilliantly and rifle the ball into the back of the net to pull Gilford level.

They remained on top until the half time whistle and might have been ahead only for some last ditch defending on efforts from Magee and McGeown.

The second half started much the same with Gilford on top and searching for their second goal. They should have had it with both Shaun Montgomery and Michael Hoy having good chances on goal.

Gilford’s second finally came midway through the half with an outstanding strike from all of 20 yards from Seamus O'Hare which was drilled past the Lurgan keeper.

They could have scored a third only for two great saves. The game ended with Gilford taking all three points.

Gilford’s management said that the whole team performance was excellent with a special mention to the man of the match Kevin McCartan who bossed the midfield.
