Reserves put seven goals past Heights

Glebe Rangers Reserves played the Heights Reserves and started well, however they had little to show for their efforts with a few half chances and some poor passes in the final third.

With the first half coming to a close a pop shot from Chris Mawhinney ended up in the back of the net. Then with the last kick of the first half the Glebe keeper, Gary ‘Spud’ McKendry made a great save to leave Glebe 1-0 up at half time.

Glebe started the second half with two goal in the first five minutes. Neat play down the right by new signing Jake Carson saw him whip in a great ball for Mawhinney to get his second after being out injured for four weeks.

Glebe’s next goal came from another tidy move down the right with Mawhinney putting in a pin point cross for Ryan Gurney to finish well. Jake Carson then got in on the act with two neat finishes giving the keeper no chance. Glebe then made it 6-0 when Carson cut in from the left nbefore sending a near pass to Neil McVicker in the box who had a snap shot with the centre half blocking. However, it fell nicely for Lewis McVicker to smash home.

Glebe went to sleep for the first time in the game allowing the Heights to get on the score sheet. With time running out Jake Carson competed his hat trick with the goal of the game when he curled home from 25 yards leaving the keeper standing as it hit the top corner.

Manager Ryan Gurney commented: “I thought defensively we were a lot stronger than we’ve been in previous weeks. Gary McKendry returned in nets and his experience at the back was crucial and he pulled off saves at important times in the match that were top class.

“Jack Lindsay moved into centre half and was excellent as was Robert Beckett who put in a great performance on his return from a injury lay off. Going forward we were brilliant and on another day would have scored a few more, Chris Mawhinney was back among the goals on his return from injury bagging himself yet another double.

Everyone at the club would like to wish our Striker Gareth Henry and his wife to be all the best as they depart to get married in New York this week!
