Results at the Brown Trout

THE weekend competition at the Brown Trout was a qualifier for the Holmpatrick Cup played in four-ball better ball format with the winning pair representing the club at the regional final against other clubs in the County.

Proceeds of the event will go to National Council of the Blind of Ireland.

In a very close finish it was the pairing of Ronnie Engall (12) and Colin McConaghie (17) playing off of their respective h/caps, 9 & 13 came through by one point from the runner/up pairing of Jimmy Kelly (8) off 6 and Robert Orr (10) off 8.

Despite concessions at the 3rd.5th. and 7th. holes Ronnie and Colin opened with 23 points over the first nine with the highlight a birdie three for Ronnie at the 6th. hole for four points.

They dropped further shots at 14 and 16 but held on to score a further 22 for a winning total of 45 points.

Jimmy and Robert blended well and opened with eight straight pars before taking a bogie four at the 9th.

They had another bogie at the 12th. before recovering with Jimmy birding the par 5 15th.with a great third shot to within three feet for four points, Robert chipped in for another birdie at 16 but at the end were pipped by the single point, finishing with nines of 21 and 23.

Next weekends competition will be another qualifier with the top three forming a team to represent the Club in the “Classic Nines.”
