Results from Brown Trout Golf Club Captain’s Day

Last Saturday Denis James hosted his rearranged Captain’s Day in glorious sunshine. The course was in great condition considering the amount of rain in July and the Captain thanked the green keeping staff for their hard work.

Maurice Torrington (14) topped the scoring with a very steady performance with 20 points after nine Maurice added 21 for total of 41 to win one point. The highlight of his round was the fact he had eleven pars on his card. Runner/up went to new club member Lyle Harris (18) with 40 points Lyle opened with 22 with the help of a birdie four at the par five 5th. He will regret failing to score at the 16th but still managed 18 points over the back nine to edge Martin Coyles (9) into third place Martin also opened with 22 points helped with birdies at holes 2 and 5, before adding 17 for a total of 39 points.

Aaron Mooney (6) finished another point back with 38 points in fourth place. Fifth spot went to Sam Reid (12) also scoring 38 points despite getting off to the worst possible start failing to score at the first two holes. Colin McConaghie (18) ended up in 6th place losing out on countback also scoring 38 points. Donal Mulholland won the gross prize with a round of 75 shots.

Jimmy Kelly (9) took the past Captains prize with his round of 37 points. Front nine prize was won by Alan Smyton and the back nine by club President Joe Logue.

The visitors prize was won by Manor Golf Club stalwart Harry Boyle (13) with a great score of 39 points with the help of back-to-back birdies at holes 7 and 8!! Alex Steele (10) Gracehill Golf Club took runner-up prize just one point adrift with 38 points.

Alex also won the prize for the longest drive up the first fairway. The prizes for nearest the pin at the par threes went to Martin Coyles at the 2nd. Michael Halliday at the 4th and John Tweed at the 9th. Trevor Cupples won the prize for nearest the pin at the difficult 7th.
