Retribution time for Under 14s

Sunnyside U14s 4 Newhill 1

SUNNYSIDE Under 14s exacted retribution on Newhill with a comprehensive 4-1 win in this top of the table clash in the Lisburn league.

All over the pitch Sunnyside were superb and could have won by a lot more, missing a penalty and a lot of chances.

Johnny Douglas fired over when well placed but made amends minutes later when he was put in by Adam Campbell and he finished superbly across the keeper.

Sunnyside were sharp and Peter Mulholland was proving a handful for the Newhill defence. Indeed it was Mullholland who showed great skill in turning two defenders and just as he thought he’d lost control of the ball, he got it back and hit home with his left foot.

Newhill threatened occasionally but Ciaran Corey and Cameron Dummigan were super at the back. Caolan Skelton and Jamie McGleenon were strong in midfield as Sunnyside got to half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

As expected Newhill rallied and scored a free kick to get back in the game.

The two goal cushion was soon restored when, from what looked like an impossible angle, Peter Mullholland fired home.

Sunnyside created lots of good chances and when Johnny Douglas was upended Robert McQuaid saw his spot kick saved. He made amends later when his run was spotted by Padraig Judge and with the goalkeeper advancing McQuaid lobbed home.

Newhill staged a late rally but Jamie McAtavey made two good saves to ensure Sunnyside were deserving winners.
