Reuben is the hot shot for Dromore in Ayr

A GROUP of players from the Dromore Amateurs U10 squad travelled to Scotland from May 14-17 to take part in the Ayr Spring Festival of Football.

The party was made up from Paul Magill, Stephen Burden, Matthew Johnston, Ryan Finlay, Matthew Brush, Nathan Hamilton, Jake Corbett, Ryan Gallagher, Matthew Crossey, Aaron Peden, Jack Siviter, Craig McCarthy and Reuben Cobb with travelling support from Alan Peden, Alan Corbett, Paul Hamilton, Martin Siviter, Davey Johnston, Ivan Cobb, Michael and Julie Brush.

The U10's played five games of football, winning three games against Scottish opponents, Crosshouse BC (KIlmarnock), Renfrewshire (Renfrewshire) and AC Oxgangs (Edniburgh), and losing two matches against Ballymena United.

The only downside of the trip being that the kids wanted more games to play in the Scottish sunshine. This downside was quickly forgotten about as the group enjoyed plenty of recreation time. With Quasar, Ko-karting, Crazy Golf, Swimming, amusements and disco dancing the order of the day so the group had plenty to do.

The highlight of all soccer festivals is the awards ceremony and the U10s got to meet current Celtic player Aiden McGeady and all the players received a medal for taking part.

The major highlight for the party was that one of Dromore’s very own players was to receive one of the most prestigious awards - The golden boot. Rueben Cobb kept the Dromore flag flying high when it was announced that he had been selected as the winner of the goal of the tournament within the U8, U9, U10 and U11 sections.

A big well done to Reuben for his individual award but the coaches would like to add a very big well done to all within the team as you all did the coaches and DAYFC proud.

All the kids can feel like winners, as they all conducted themselves brilliantly for the duration of the weekend and they all were very good ambassadors for DAYFC not only with the high standard of football they played but the manners and behaviour from everyone impressed the coaches and many a spectator who passed on positive comments to the coaches.

The coaches would like to say a big thank you to all those individuals that provided either vocal support, financial support and those that provided food as it all contributed to the kids weekend away whether it be the parents, local businesses or the club’s committee.

The coaches would especially offer a big thank you to Donna for doing all the hard prep-work beforehand to ensure the kids were well looked after.

One final thank you from the coaches goes to the kids, without you there is no team. Train hard and play hard and who knows maybe one of these days we can win a tournament like this!
