Riada boss rues missed chances

Riada travelled to Coleraine to play Coleraine Crusaders at Anderson Park on the back of an impressive win away against Maghera Strollers the previous week.

Points are vital as they remain in the hunt for the Coleraine & District Premier league title, however, they found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 defeat.

Riada were missing midfielder Stephen McCook through suspension and although there was doubt over whether this match would be on or not, the pitch was declared playable.

After the game Riada Manager Richard Mooney spoke to his players as they found themselves ruing a number of missed opportunities.

He commented; “We felt we played well in the first period and contained them very well also creating some good clear cut opportunities on the break.

“When you play a team as good as the Crues away from home you may only get three or four chances the whole game and you must take at least two to stand a chance as they always pose a goal threat and have players who can conjure something from very little.

“In saying all this we have no complaints about the result, we never got started in the second half and they were much the better side.

“I can also have no complaints about the effort my players put in, we just weren’t good enough on the day. We beat them at home earlier in the season and performed to our maximum that day in order to achieve that result but today we just weren’t at that level.”

Riada know they will have to play alot better next week when they once again take on Maghera Strollers in the Constitution Cup.
