Our final event of the year and our first cyclocross race, Round 7 of the Ulster CX series and Ulster CX Champs, has gone off as a complete success. The combination of good weather, excellent course and venue and the festive atmosphere made for an excellent event.

The course was definitely a challenging one but without doubt, the main field with the spirals and the bridge were the main attractions for riders and spectators alike. The bales and technical sections of trail kept everyone on their toes too!

Well done to all competitors but especially our own club members who all had respectable results despite stiff competition in all classes.

Well done and many thanks to everyone who contributed in any small way to help in the running of the event from the sadists who designed and built the course, the timing and admin crew and the ladies who kept everyone well fed throughout the day.

Primes went to Alex Donald for last man not to be lapped by Roger Aiken, Cronan O’Doibhlin travelled from Cork to be farthest travelled competitor and Joe McCrory definitely went all out for the best costume.

Many thanks to Commissaire, Peter Field and assistant Commissaire, Martin Grimley.

Many thanks to our sponsors for the event who were Cookstown Cycles, The Shepherds Rest Inn, and KDM Hire.

On Thursday 6th December the Carn Wheelers held their AGM at the An Carn centre. During the night the chairman and secretary presented their reports for the clubs status nearing the close of 2012. The members present were informed on the growing success of the club’s events including the Carn Wheelers Classic, Kids MTB in garvagh, hosting two rounds of the Ulster XC, hosting a round of the CX series and the growing popularity of The Tour Of South Derry. An announcement was also made on the club hosting the 2013 Tour of Ulster.

The club also extended its congratulations to the many members who won various events throughout the year. The club was well represented in all disciplines of cycling with podiums frequently coloured with the green and black!

The club held a vote on the election of new members to the various positions that ensure the smooth running of the club. Many thanks to members of the outgoing team who’s efforts during the year helped the club gain nomination, and narrowly miss out, on being voted club of the year at the Cycling Ulster AGM.

Before the recent Carn Wheelers AGM a cheque was presented to MacMillan Cancer Support for £8785 raised from the annual event the Tour of South Derry
