Rising Sun A claim cup

RISING Sun ‘A’ showed their class over the last two Thursday nights by deservedly winning the first team cup of the season with a 4-1 victory over Longfield A.

Credit must also go to Longfield A on reaching the final with much of that to do with with the strong performance of Eddie Connolly rolling back the years to defeat the promising up-and-coming county player, Padraig O’Reilly.

Semi-finalists, John T’s have always been in the mix in recent years, especially in cup events while Eglinton Cricket Club A are improving and they gave the eventual winners an early scare in the semis until Steven Doherty recorded a 120 checkout which had a big say in changing the game in Rising Sun A’s favour. Doherty also hit the winning double to win the cup.

The highest checkout on the night was from the talented Steven Doherty (Rising Sun A) with an important 120 finish in the semi-final against Eglinton Cricket Club A.

Surprisingly there was only one maximum on the night from Paddy McElhinney (Longfield A) in the final. The least darts on the night was from the talented Sean McKinney (Rising Sun A) 16 darts in the semi-finals and also 20 darts in the final.

Other good legs came from Adrian Pearson (John T’s) 17 darts in the semis; Paddy McElhinney (Longfield A) 2x19 darts in the final; Conrad Watson (Rising Sun A) 21 darts in the final and Darryl Loughery (Rising Sun A) 21 darts in the semis.

These least darts legs are all the most impressive with the added pressure of double in double out format.
