Rising Sun A clinchtitle

AFTER a long league campaign due to the sheer number of teams involved in the Eglinton & District Darts League, with one confirmed game left to play the Rising Sun A clinched the league title in Eglinton Cricket Club last Thursday night having required just one point to confirm their title.

Before the second last game the new champions had their re-arranged game from previous week to play against local arch rivals The Vale who impressed in their first season in the league.

Determined to spoil the party, The Vale did so for a short time defeating the Rising Sun A to postpone the celebrations with a good 4-2 victory with two of their team, in particular, Dolan King and Brian Watson, leading the determination to ensure the Rising Sun A would not leave The Vale gates as league champions.

But the two points gained helped the Rising Sun A cause before travelling to win the title against the Eglinton Cricket Club B.

Credit to the league runners-up, Macons, who always are there or thereabouts and the other teams such as Donaghy’s A, Calablanca and The Depot who pushed the new champions all the way.

The new champions regained the League Shield after the Corner Bar deservedly won the title last season, so congratulions to the Rising Sun A squad - Michael McCloskey (Captain), Steven Doherty, Conrad Watson, Sean Logue, Brian Anderson, Niall Cassidy, Darryl Loughery, Raymond Cooper, Sean McKinney and Paul Brown.

There were two maximum recorded 180 scores last Thursday night and these came from Joe Dougherty (Drummond Hotel) and Keith Darby (Macons).
