The partnership will see the local waste management company, which recently acquired Foyle Skip Hire, work with organisers to ensure that event waste is diverted from landfill through the provision of bins along the challenging course.

Race Director Noel McMonagle welcomed the partnership and said, “The Walled City Marathon’s challenging course takes in the famed City Walls, the Peace Bridge, and the banks of the River Foyle before finishing in the Guildhall Square and with more than 1,500 participants as well as thousands of spectators there will of course be a certain amount of waste and litter created across the City.

Fergal Kerr, Business Development Manager at RiverRidge Recycling said, “Having supported a number of local events and community initiatives across the North West, we believe that it is important that local companies and SMEs engage with their communities and events and support and assist them.

“Only by helping each other can we ensure a better economic and social future for all. We commend the team at the Walled City Marathon, what they’ve achieved in a short space of time is just incredible. We hope that with our assistance and as a local sponsor we can add further value.

“This looks set to be another fantastic event for the City and we wish competitors and spectators alike a great day and would ask them to use the bins provided around the site. It is important that we are aware of the impact we individually have on our environment and how we can divert waste from landfill through increasing our recycling.”
