Roar into the New Year

WITH the Christmas holidays ended and kids back at school, Coleraine Borough Council is kick starting the New Year with an exciting catalogue of Sports Development & Recreation activity programmes.

This New Year activity programme comprises a new look Activ8 Wildcats Club and other well established programmes such as Bannsiders Bambinos, NRGIZE Sport and Recreation Club, Just Dance Club, Junior Hockey and Netball Clubs all of which commence beginning of 2013.

Talking about the exciting new Wildcats programme launch for 2013, Coleraine Borough Council’s Sports Development and Recreation Manager, Roger Downey said: “Wildcats has recently gone through a total overhaul (just look at the new logo) and is now ready to ‘pounce’ back greater than ever! It has now been re-vamped with new course content, exciting fun games and more structured session plans.

“The new Wildcats programme is now aimed specifically for boys and girls aged 4 to 11 years with the emphasis on learning every skill for sport, making new friends, getting active and having lots of fun! Each week children’s running, jumping and throwing skills will all be enhanced as well as improved agility, balance, co-ordination; with increased speed, power, and endurance.

“Not only will Wildcats create a starting point and a foundation for young people in sport, it will provide links to local quality sport specific clubs to ensure that children continue on their pathway to long term sports participation. This is the important legacy that Olympic and Paralympics programmes such as Activ8 Wildcats can bring to sport in Northern Ireland.”

Each registered member will receive an exclusive free Wildcats Membership card with the option of purchasing an exclusive Wildcats Play pack comprising of a Wildcats T-shirt, drawstring bag, agility ball and wristband. Also on the completion of each level all members will receive an exclusive certificate detailing competencies learnt.

Wildcats for the 4 to 6-year-olds and 7 to 11-year-olds meet every Tuesday from 4.45pm until 5.45pm and commences on Tuesday 5 February. Both club sections will take place in Coleraine Leisure Centre and membership is totally free; with a ‘Pay as you Play’ charge of £2.70 per week attending payable at the centre. Alternatively there is the option of paying for the eight week programme up front at £20.00 with will incur a saving of £1.60.

Parents also have the option of purchasing the exclusive Wildcats Play Pack priced at £12, however as a special one time only promotion, the first 20 children registered on the new-look Wildcats will each receive a free Wildcats Play Pack. It is envisaged that interest will be high so please register early to avoid disappointment.
