Robin shoots best round of the season to take McMaster honours

ROBIN Moorhead (17) shot the best nett score of the season so far to win the Bill McMaster Memorial Cup at Banbridge Golf Club.

He played almost flawless golf for a glorious nett 58, the equivalent of 47 points.

A nett score less than 60 does not happen very often and this round is one that Robin will surely treasure.

His nearest challenger was Joe E. Hamilton (14) with 43 points. Joe had just returned from a sojourn in America and he thought his game would be a little rusty. Not so! He hit some cracking iron shots and putted like a demon.

Ivan Rushe (12) was third, also with 43 points and the fourth prize went to Keith Steenson (7) with yet another 43 points.

Paul Magennis (4) and Michael Allison (8) both had 41 points. There was no prize for Michael but Paul, who went round in one under par 68, took away the coveted best gross prize.

The scoring was excellent, with no less than nine players scoring 40 points. David Thompson (20) led this group and Dennis Watt (16), Norman Doak (17), Lee Willdridge (16), Shane Bell (7), Ruairi Gillen (13), Declan Barry (10), Bill McCandless (50 and David Cherry (11) all followed him.

The only one to get a prize was Dennis Watt and that was for the best score from a senior player.

But all the kudos went to Robin Moorhead and his wonderful nett 58. That score might not be beaten this season. We will have to wait and see.
