Rockers remain top of the pile

Rockers consolidated their position at the top of the Carrick and District Pool League table with a convincing win over rivals Greenisland. A close match was expected but the hosts took all seven frames in the first session, before running out 10-4 winners.

Spartans maintained their challenge coming from 2-0 down at bottom team Alpha to win 12-2. D. Lowe scored a hat-trick for the visitors. A. Acheson had put Alpha ahead with a fine performance.

Castle also stay in touch at the top with an 11-3 win over Monkstown’s Hit Men and Her. The match was delicately poised at 3-3, but a tremendous eight-frame run gave them three vital points.

Cowboys finally hit top form after a lacklustre start to the season. Hugh McMurtry’s men won both sessions 5-2 over Scorpions with recently crowned Northern Ireland Under-23 champion, Steven Carson, bagging a hat-trick.

Barbarians continued their charge up the table. Again another unanswered burst of frames from 5-2 down gave them a 9-5 away win at Whitehead Trojans.

MSC Trojans are steadily becoming draw specialists. They were held 7-7 in Monkstown by Andy Lindsay’s Teddy Bears after being 5-2 in front. Captain Rab Brown unluckily went in off the black in the 14th frame.

Elsewhere, Warriors leapfrogged Eastway into 12th position with a fine 9-5 win in Whitehead, while Jolly Beggar had a bye.
