Roesiders ready to challenge for honours

WITH the season now due to start this weekend Limavady United should be in a strong position to challenge for honours this season.

The club has added to the squad from last season and have only really lost one player from last year.

David Patton, who managed seventeen goals, has left the club and has joined Tobermore United where he will be a player/coach.

Although last season's player of the year, Gareth McConaghie, joined his former boss Tommy Wright at Lisburn Distillery he has returned to the Showgrounds on a year's loan.

Goalkeeper Chris Anderson is another addition to the squad having been previously at United and Coleraine.

Robert Robinson has also signed a short term deal. The former Linfield goalkeeper will be joining immediately.

There are several new additions to the Roesiders with Francis McKenna moving from Ballymoney United. He can play at right back or right midfield.

Conleth McCaughan has also been added to the squad. He is highly thought of and can play up front or left midfield.

Manager Oran Kearney feels that continuance will be the key this season for his side.

"I said last season that it would be easier for the like of Donegal Celtic and Loughgall because of their squads," he said.

"All they had to do was the keep the same team who had been together for the last few seasons.

"We were different because most of our team was changed in one way or another and it takes time when this happens.

"It's important that the teams improves from year to year and that will be our aim for this season.

"I have always said that there is no point in entering a league if you don't want to win it and will be going in with that intention.

"We finished third last season and had a big semi-final and we will be looking to improve on that this year.

"We have only lost one player so have the majority of last season's squad and have added a few as well.

"It's always good to freshen the team a bit and there may be another new face or two before the season starts.

"There are a few things in the pipeline which I am working on and hopefully will be sorted out shortly," concluded Kearney.
