Roesiders warm up is still going well

LIMAVADY United good pre-season continued as they enjoyed a hard fought 3 – 2 win against local rivals Newtowne on Thursday night. Newtowne took the lead on the stroke of half time when Blaine Morrison scored with a well-taken goal shooting in from a narrow angle into the top of the net.

In truth, it was no less than Newtowne deserved. Logue had a great chance to score after half an hour but blazed over.

They had been pressing the game against a United side, which was out of sorts and was not playing with anything like the fluidity of the matches against Distillery and Ballymena United.

In the second half Ciaran Clarke quickly restored parity with a drive from the right hand side.

Trevor Hutchinson came on as substitute for Shane Jennings and had a spectacular effort when his overhead kick hit the post.

However United went ahead just after the hour when Peter Spratt, who was captain for the night, made surging run from midfield and scored.

Newtowne had a great chance to equalise as goalkeeper Doherty rushed out of his goal but was beaten by Newtowne forward.

However a great goal line clearance by Declan McKeever prevented a certain equaliser. Shortly after this, United scored a penalty through Paul Owens but Newtown had the last word with a goal from Nicholl.

Last Saturday United continued their season preparations with a home game against junior side Derriaghy.

The game ended up with a victory for the home side but it wasn't without cost as both Trevor Hutchinson and Paul Owens picked up injuries.

Owens in particular appeared to damage his knee quite severely after an awful tackle on him.

United took the lead in the 16th minute when Declan McKeever fired the ball home.

Orr did pull a goal back for the visitors in the 55th minute but it was against the run of play and their approach to the game was overly physical.

The Roesiders did get a winner in the 70th minute when Lee Patrick scored for his first pre-season goal.
