Ross carries the flag for Lurgan Blues on way to victory at Ballymena

Waringstown based Saloon Stock Car racer Ross Houston showed the way for the Lurgan Blues by lifting a trophy at Ballymena Raceway’s Stock Car meeting on Friday evening.

Houston had his car decked out with the Glenavon colours at the Ballymena Showgrounds track, with his great friend and rival Ryan Wright from Cullybackey carrying the Sky Blue colours of Ballymena United.

It was Houston who finished with the bragging rights, and the silverware, when he secured impressive victories in both the second heat and the meeting final.

In the other classes on display at The County Garage sponsored meeting there was a heat and final double for Stock Car Irish Champion Christopher Kincaid in the F2 Stock Car category and Niall McFerran recorded his sixth final win on the trot in the Junior Rod division.

Mark Frew claimed the Euro Stocks silverware, with the other finals wins captured by Noel Hazlett in the Speed Stocks and Matthew Curran in the Group Two Lightning Rod section.

Oval racing continues at the Ballymena Showgrounds on Friday evening (May 9) when the speed kings of the local tracks, the National Hot Rods, contest Round 12 of their World Qualifying campaign.

World Champion John Christie secured the European Championship recently in Scotland and heads the entry, along with points leader Andrew Murray and British Champion Glenn Bell from Portadown.

with Niall McFerran the hot favourite after an amazing six final wins on the trot. Speed Stocks, Euro Stocks, Group Two

Lightning Rods, Classic Hot Rods, Retro and Stock Rods completed the packed schedule, with the first race leaving the

grid at 7:15pm.
