Round-up of all the news from Banbridge Tennis Club

BANBRIDGE’S A team came up against one of the strongest teams in Division 4 of the Mixed League this week and despite some very competitive play lost 5-2 to Cavehill at home.

The B team, fresh from their excellent win last week, unfortunately could not maintain their winning streak and lost at home to Newcastle in a very close fought match eventually losing 5-3.

Conor Morrow won both his matches, playing third mixed with Jane Boyce and first mens with John Cowan.

Banbridge’s second Mens partnership of Greg Radcliffe and Ivan Ewart continued their winning ways, taking the third set in their match 10-4.

The third in-house tournament will be held at the club on Thursday 7 June at 6.30pm as no league matches will be held during that week.

Week three has proved very successful for the Banbridge Junior teams with the worst result being a 3-3 draw by the U18 boys B team. Coming back from a heavy defeat last week the U18 boys E team delivered a 6-0 defeat to a tricky Hilden side. Aaron McConville, Declan Loy, Matthew McCarter and Charlie McClean played exceptionally well to gain maximum points for the team.

The U18 girls A team and the U18 boys D team also had 6-0 wins. Playing their first match of the season away to Bangor, the U14 boys A team consisting of Scott Armstrong, Angus Corbett, Aaron McConnell and Josh Peacock, recorded an emphatic 6-0 win, getting themselves off to the best possible start.

Following on from their first match victory, the U14 girls team added another 4-2 triumph to their tally. Special mention goes to Sarah McNeilly who has won all her four matches 11-0!
