Route branch head for England

THE 2010 season got off to a fine start for the Route Hunt Pony branch with the success in the Dengie Winter League Dressage and Show Jumping competitions.

Rosie Alcorn and Lucy Lamont both qualified in the dressage with Rosie taking top place in the finals in February and showjumpers Eimear McMahon and Kim Campbell taking second and third qualifying places at Eglinton earlier this month.

Riders from Nothern Ireland have, in the past, taken top honours in England and we wish all four girls, who will be travelling to Moreton Morrell this week a successful trip.

Another junior member, Aoife Cameron Mitchell, has been training with the Games squad for the Windsor Games and she is in the running for a place to travel to England in May.

The branch has already started showjumping training with Julie Henderson, and the junior rallies and games training have been attended by up to 20 youngsters.

The horse care training for C and C+ levels are continuing and training rallies for cross country and dressage are planned in the coming weeks.

The Easter Camp for D, D+ and C levels, which was such a success last year, will take place during the holidays at Eglinton Equestrian centre.

A new venture for the branch was its “Night at the Races” which took place at Coleraine Rugby Club.

Spearheaded by Ann Marie and Cathal Carr this was a resounding success and we would like to thank everyone who “bought” horses and especially to everyone who sponsored the races: Moore Stephens Accountants, Millburn Veterinary Practice, Intervet SP, Lee Johnston Farrier, Boehringer, Eurowname, Maddybenny Leisure, Gemini Homes, JT Autos, Dirraw Farm, Basil Knipe Electrics, Autosmart-Bryan Hall, SB Taxis, Baileys Horse feeds and JWA Promotional Products.

The Route branch welcomes new members and for more information on our activities check out our website on www.pcuk.org
