Newbuildings United Res.1

Claudy Rovers2

AN understrength Newbuildings United Reserves side fell to their first defeat of the season going down 1-2, at Prehen, on Saturday.

The visitors started the better with some good passing and moving but failed to test the home keeper and it was the home side who against the run of play took the lead after 20 minutes.

Newbuildings were awarded a free kick on the corner of the 18 yard box and this was expertly dispatched into the opposite top corner of the net by Glenn Wallace giving the away stopper no chance.

Claudy equalised almost straight away when they were awarded a penalty after Nelson was adjudged to have handled the ball just inside the area. This was slotted home by the Claudy forward.

The away side took the lead shortly after when a corner was volleyed home at the back post from two yards out. Claudy continued to press forward but again without really testing the Newbuildings keeper.

The second half saw the home side battle hard but fail to create any chances with Claudy looking dangerous on the break and only for a great save from the home keeper denying the Claudy forward from close range the away side would have gone further ahead.

Newbuildings United Reserves are away to Park in the league this Saturday.
