ROWING: Coleraine trio named in 2010 squad

COLERAINE rowers Alan Campbell, Richard Chambers and Peter Chambers have all been named in the 2010 Great Britain World Cup rowing squad.

Campbell is Britain's leading single sculler. He won his sixth successive British title at the GB rowing team senior trials in Hazewinkel last month.

In 2009 he proved that he is one of the world's best, winning in Banyoles and taking silver in Munich.

At the World Championships in Poznan, Campbell lead for the first half of the race before losing out to New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale by just 0.95 of a second.

He is aiming to go one better this year.

"Everything that we have done this year is about closing that gap. Whether it's rest or recovery, weight lifting or technique - everything that we have done is about overtaking the big man from New Zealand," Campbell said.

Campbell represented Great Britain at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Despite suffering a knee injury earlier that season, he recovered to finish fifth overall.

"London 2012 is just around the corner. There is no greater motivation than the thought of an Olympic games in your own country."

Campbell's fellow Olympian Richard Chambers will represent Great Britain in the Lightweight fours.

He was World Champion in 2007 and was a finalist in Beijing.

He is joined in the team by his brother Peter Chambers. He will compete in the lightweight fours at Under 23 level.

He raced in the lightweight quad at the 2009 World Under 23 Championships, where he won bronze.
