Roy and Peter’s away wins not enough to prevent Ulster Cup exit

The away leg was played last Sunday and, going into it, Team captain, Brendan Meade, was not optimistic after losing the home leg by three games to four. In the end, the comeback wasn’t to be despite a battling away display.

The Banbridge side travelled to the South Armagh club determined to put up a good show. And they did just that.

Roy Sipson won the top game by four and three. What a pity that he had not been available for the first leg.

Peter Hillen, a player who never gives up, won his game by one hole up.

The rest of the team, according to the captain, all played very well and, with a little bit of luck, could well have won their narrow games.

But Lady Luck was not on their side.

Kevin McKay, Neil Diamond, John McDowell, Alan Caughey and Brendon Berry all lost.

Cloverhill won the second leg 5-2 and the match overall by 9-5. The score does not reflect the closeness of the match.

Cloverhill have their sights set on winning the Ulster Cup this season. We wish them well.
