Ruben wins All-Ireland title

Larne’s East Coast Raiders BMX club now boasts an All-Ireland champion.

ECR’s youngest rider, Ruben Smith, brought home gold last week from the All-Ireland BMX Championship which was held at Ratoath in County Meath.

Ruben’s performance was outstanding, taking wins in all three motos and again in the finals. But it didn’t stop there for the Raiders as his big sister Aimee also took a spot on the podium in the under-10s girls’ section.

Performing well, Aimee took the top three finishes in her motos and finished third in her final.

Geoff Lynch also had a great day. Lynch normally rides in the 30-plus category but for this event both the 30+ and the superclass were merged together. He took second, fourth and third in his motos, just missing out by one point to make the ‘A’ finals. But his finishes gave him first pick of the gates in the ‘B’ final, which he led from start to finish. The win gives Geoff an All-Ireland ranking of ninth and he is now ranked second in his group.
