RUGBY: Ballyclare High and Ballyclare Secondary share spoils in Plate final
With a last kick of the game Sam Caldwell kept his nerve and slotted over a penalty to level the match. Rules state the Plate must be shared in the event of a tie.
Ballyclare High School’s Director of Rugby, Mike McKeever, told the Times: “It was excellent for the town to have the two schools in the final of a competition. I encouraged a joint team photo, which was done brilliantly.

“And congratulations to our captain, Bruce Deyermond, and coaches Mr Lenaghan and Mr Bell on a fantastic, exciting and busy season with the 3rd XV.”
Mr. McKeever also revealed that, in conjunction with BRA and Ballymena Academy, Ballyclare High has agreed to run a mini development league for 3rd XV and 4th XV rugby.
It will be based on the three schools playing each other home and away next season to provide a more matches during September and October.
