The Grammar were ultimately left to rue missed opportunities and an unfortunate run of injuries but they did get off to a strong start in Saturday’s clash, controlling the game in terms of both possession and territory.

Christian Robinson put them in front when he crossed the line following a well-executed move among the backs.

A second score followed shortly after when good work by out-half David Carse resulted in Robinson landing his second try of the game.

The Carrick boys couldn’t hold Coleriane out until half-time and it proved to be a turning point in the game.

Five minutes into the second half, Carrick Grammar had already been forced into three replacements due to injuries.

This led to a loss of structure, with Coleraine capitalising on defensive lapses. The final score did not do Carrick justice, but the boys will take great confidence from an excellent first half and a spirited second session.
