RUGBY: Larne squad has real pride in the jersey, says captain Garrett

The men from Glynn are flying high at the top of Qualifying Two but Garrett expects a big test when fourth-placed Coleraine roll into town on Saturday.

“Having had a week off for the first time since the start of season we will be coming into this match, hopefully, with a fresh and fit team. There have been no easy matches and the physicality seems to be increasing week on week. We expect nothing less when we face Coleraine,” Garrett said.

“In open play we have threats all over the park, and, fingers crossed, we can tire an older, heavier Coleraine side out with our speed of play and stretch their defence.

“We have worked hard on our defensive structure and it’s proving difficult to break down for a lot of teams. There seems to be a rejuvenated sense of pride in the jersey this year and players want to win at all costs each week and it is great to be a part of.

“If we can hold out against Coleraine, it will go a long way to being safe from a relegation battle before the Christmas break. It is vital that we pick up as many points as possible.”

He added: “Although we won our last match against Queen’s II quite comfortably, the performance left a lot to be desired. We will have to up their game significantly if we are to have a chance of winning this game.”
