Duffy inspires victory

Instonians III...6City of Derry II...43

CITY of Derry Seconds travelled midweek to face Instonians Thirds and came away with the points after a convincing display in what was to prove a very entertaining and rewarding game which saw Derry go top of the table.

The visitors, playing into a strong breeze, started strongly and were rewarded with a try by powerful winger Craig Inglis who beat three tackles to score in the corner. The home side responded with a penalty before Derry scored their second of six tries on 22 minutes. After some great work by Simms, Ryan and Campbell it was left for right winger Rudi Moore to score wide out for the first of his brace of tries.

Young outhalf Phil Duffy, who had a fine game, added the third four minutes later when with the Inst defence stretched he raced through to touch down under the posts. Inst added a penalty on the stroke of half time to leave it 6-19 at the break.

Derry, now with the elements in their favour, went on the offensive from the start and it wasn't long before they added their forth.

After some great driving from the pack the ball was moved right from a ruck for Inglis to touch down.

Young prop Eamon McIvor, who just gets better with every game, crashed over on 60 minutes after great approach work by Duffy and centre Nick Donnell.

Full back Richard Peoples scored 12 minutes later with left winger Moore adding his second after the ball was moved sharply by Campbell and Duffy.
