Rugby Club on South Africa tour

AFTER months of planning and fundraising, Banbridge Rugby Club’s much anticipated tour to South Africa is now only a matter of weeks away.

The Tour Committee along with Burleigh Travel have put together an exciting, action packed programme taking in a Test Match at Newlands, going on a safari, a vineyard tour as well as three matches during 10 days in the Western Cape.

Thirty players and eight club officials will depart from Banbridge RFC on Wednesday August 15, arriving in Cape Town the following day.

The players will undertake their first training session on the morning of the 17th followed by a trip to Table Mountain in the afternoon.  False Bay will play host to Banbridge in their first of three tour fixtures on Saturday 18th.

Following the match, the tour party will make its way to Newlands to watch South Africa v Argentina in the South American side’s first ever fixture in the new Rugby Championship.

Another training session on Sunday will be followed by a trip to the Stellenbosch Winelands Tour and Museum including tastings at two different vineyards.

Monday is a free day for the tourists, and on Tuesday the tour will play its second fixture against a Pniel/Kylemore Combined XV.

The players will train again on the Wednesday ahead of their last fixture against Kraaifontein on Thursday 23rd.

On Friday the tourists will visit the Aquila Private Game Reserve for a safari.  Aquila is a big five game reserve, so if the party is lucky they will be able to view all of the elusive big five animals - elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino - along with a wide variety of other wildlife on the reserve.

Saturday will be the tourists’ last full day in South Africa before returning back to Banbridge on Sunday
