Rugby Union World Cup trophy coming to Guildhall

Rugby fans from the North West will have the chance to see what Ireland skipper Paul O’Connell really wants to hold aloft later this year - the Rugby World Cup trophy.

The Webb Ellis Cup, which is to be played for in England and Wales in September, will visit the city this Tuesday June 16, on the latest leg of the 100 day Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.

The trophy is reaching the end of a global tour will go on display in the Guildhall between 11am and 3pm.

Its arrival in the city comes after a 12 month journey around the world marking the countdown to the Rugby World Cup 2015 opening ceremony at Twickenham Stadium in London on September 18.

Ireland’s fixtures in the tournament are: Saturday September 19, v Canada, Millennium Stadium, (KO 2.30pm); Sunday September 27, v Romania, Wembley Stadium, (KO 6.45pm); Sunday October 4, v Italy, Olympic Stadium, (KO 4.45pm) and Sunday October 11, v France Millennium Stadium, (KO 4.45pm).
