Inst Seconds in hat for second round of Cup

Inst were immediately on the front foot, George McKeag got the touch down after an excellent catch and drive from a lineout.

From that point Coleraine never looked back. There was some moments of brilliance one such came from the goose stepping prop Andrew ‘Quade Cooper’ Moore, a superb solo try from Jonny ‘the tooth’ Booth and also some huge carrys from Christi Hamilton, George Mckeag and James Bleakly.

CAI scored 12 tries in total, 4 from George McKeag, 3 from James Bleakly, 1 each from Adam Alexander, Andy Moore, Johnny Booth and Alastair Telfer. Zac Hutchinson added 4 conversions to leave the score 68-0.

Meanwhile the fourths met St Columb’s in teh first round of the Cp. The home side were the physically bigger of the two teams and their formidable back row players started to run at the Coleraine side. Both sides had chances in the first 10 minutes, but it was Inst. who put the first points on the board. Thomas Dallasstormed through three tackles to score behind the post. He converted his own try to put Inst seven points into the lead.

St Columb’s replied very quickly with a try of their own. They had made a dangerous run but turned over the ball. Unfortunately it was knocked on and from the resultant scrum they charged again only to be stopped 5 metres out. They rumbled around the sides and eventually broke through to score. The try was converted making the score 7-7.

An Inst. clearance kick led to a line out on the half-way line and the opposition managed to catch and start to drive forward. They tied in some of the defenders and as the pack stopped the maul one of their back-row came blasting through the back line. A couple of missed tackles led to him scoring between the posts. The conversion was missed to make the score 12-7 but the Derry side managed another score and by half time the score was 21 points to 7. Jamie Taggart forced his way over the line, but the conversion was missed, this left the score 21-12. St Colum’s grounded the ball again, but the conversiion was missed, the final score 26-12.

The Under 12 As met Limavady Grammar. It was a convincing win for the Coleraine lads, Limavady 0 CAI 43.
