“The event is of tremendous benefit to us financially and it also helps build the spirit among the players ahead of the new campaign. We are hoping for a good turnout on both days,” he said.

The Sevens will officially mark the club’s return to the Cottonmount after works at the ground. “We will be re-opening the pitches after the upgrade to the lights and the drainage work and everyone connected with the club is very much looking forward to getting back at playing on home turf,” added Mr Harris.

Held annually since 1974, the Ophir Sevens continues to attract rugby enthusiasts young and old. A combined 14 teams will battle it out in the Under-17 and Under-19s sections, while a further 12 will take part in the showpiece event for the right to get their hands on the Will Totten Memorial trophy.

As well as the guarantee of two great days of rugby, the club also provides kids’ entertainment and refreshments to make for ‘a fabulous fun-filled occasion’.
