It proved a closely fought encounter at Ballyquinn Road, with the home side, Limavady Grammar edging out a the battle Wellington College from Belfast.

Limavady played with the strong wind advantage in the first half, but that combined with snow flurries, mean the game was broken up badly.

Eventually the North West side opened the scoring.

Captain, Scott McLean, gained good ground for his team with a long penalty kick to touch.

The resulting lineout saw the home team gain control of the ball. They protected it efficiently and finished off with a try which was awarded to Oliver Mullan.

The conversion was missed and Limavady went into the interval leading 5-0.

The second half saw the Limavady enjoy territorial advantage for long periods of time.

However, the overhead conditions ensured there were plenty of spillages and the game became somewhat scrappy at times.

Both teams displayed great determination and it was Wellington wholevelled the score at 5-5.

They kicked their way into the Limavady ‘22’ following a series of penalties.

Pressure on the Limavady defence ended when Jamie Hewitt ran in for an unconverted try for the visitors.

The home team recovered from this setback and their pack, buoyed by the arrival of impact sub, Alan Wilson, took play deep into opposition territory.

Pressure on line ended when Gus McIntosh scrambled over for an unconverted try to secure a hard –earned 10-5 victory for home side.
