The Newtownabbey side now face Banbridge Academy in the showpiece after they defeated Cambridge House in Saturday’s other semi-final.

The breakthrough score came midway through the first session when White, Belfast High School’s out-half, broke out of his defensive zone and outpaced the trailing defenders to touch down for a try. He duly converted the try to give his side a 7-0 lead.

And it was White who forged the Jordanstown lads further in front. He was precise in front of the posts, kicking a penalty to make it 10-0.

Larne Grammar, with Barry McFaul and John Hyndman leading the charge, mounted something of a revival but it was Jack Hill who got the visitors right back in it with a fine try. Hyndman converted to reduce the deficit at the interval.

In the second half White made no mistake with another penalty opportunity, giving the High School a six-point advantage.

But Larne battled back with Hyndman and McFaul both coming close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Aaron Wilson looked odds-on to cross the line, but an outstanding cover tackle from full-back Craig McMaster kept him out.

Danske Bank Schools’ Trophy semi-finals: Belfast HS 13-7 Larne GS; Banbridge GS 27-10 Cambridge House.
