Runner Connor retains Portglenone 5k title

Fit N Running athlete Connor McQuillan retained his Portglenone 5K road race title when he finished top junior and 12th overall in last week’s event.

Connor improved his time from last year by 1min 6secs when he finished in 18mins 12secs.

Chris McQuillan was also in action and kept his impressive run of personal best performances in tact when he finished in 23mins 59secs clipping 8 secs of his previous best.

The popular beginners class continues on a Monday evening and attracted 40 runners on week two.

The group are well on target to go from scratch to 40mins running in 8 weeks.

WEIGHTLOSS/

CONDITIONING CLASS

The club are also planning to introduce a weightloss/conditioning class.

Class will involve measuring body weight and filling in a short lifestyle questionnaire.

This information will be used to calculate metabolic rate and provide a generic nutrition plan with a personal calorie count to enable participants to reach their goal weight.

Body weight will be taken at the start of each class.

The class will consist of a circuit and run which will also be designed to stabilize joints, develop core strength, improve muscle tone, improve posture, develop flexibility, minimise injury risk, develop cardiovascular fitness, running technique and performance.

It’ll be suitable for all levels of ability and age groups.

Anyone wishing to do the class and not weightloss part is welcome to attend as they’ll benefit from all the above fitness components. The class will be held on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Fit N Running are based at the Michelin Athletic Club in Ballymena.

They train intermediate and beginners on Monday evening at 615pm. Tuesday evenings are advanced level at 615pm. There is also a session on Saturday mornings at 915am.

The club cater for the full range of runners from beginners, juniors though to intermediate and advanced athletes.
