Runners take part in second annual Boom Foundation 10K event

And they are off! The start line of the Boom 10K Coleraine.

The run was organised by Springwell Running Club with proceeds of the race being donated to the local cancer charity – The Boom Foundation.

In near perfect running conditions, the top three podium positions in the mens race were taken by Jonathan McKee of Springwell Running Club, Langdon Williams of South West Road Runners and Kieran O’Neill also of Springwell Running Club.

Ladies top honours were taken by Rachel Gibson - North Down, Cathy McCourt - North Belfast and Sonia Knox - Springwell Running Club.

On Sunday 13 September, Springwell’s Chris Denton and Fran McFadden travelled to Carrickmore on Sunday for the Mary Anderson Foundation Colour Marathon.

The event, organised by The Rainbow Gateway Club and the Mary Anderson Foundation in memory of the late Mary Anderson, proved a fitting tribute to the late Mary Anderson.

The major prize winners were Gary O’Hanlon (Clonliffe Harriers) 2:40:48 and Hannah Oldroyd (Saltaire Striders) 2:57:50.

Chris ran 3:02:40 and Fran 3:35:17 on the undulating 26.2 mile course.

Limavady Rugby & Cricket Club held a fund raising 5k on Sunday the 14th. Springwell Runnnig Club member, Stephen Fillis, took first place on the podium in a time of 18:43 followed by Geff Young, (Valley Running) and John Cairns.

In the ladies race Helen Flanagan came in first with Springwell runner Chatherine Pinkerton second place followed by Lynne Young.

Portrush parkrun: There was a threat of early morning rain but thankfully this came to nothing, leaving dry, calm conditions for Saturdays parkrun.

With high tide not until 11:00am, the sand was quite firm underfoot.

Hazel McGrath was congratulated on being nominated Portrush parkrun Sweatshop parkrunner of the month for August, Melanie Millar on being the 52nd runner to have completed 50 parkruns and Sally McClean on being the fifth runner to have completed 100.

There were 125 runners, 27 first timers, 25 PB’s and 9 athletics clubs represented.

Saturday was the September pacing event with 26 min and 30 min being the times paced for the 5k distance.

First to finish was Glenn Millar in 18.51 and first lady was Donna Campbell in a PB time of 23.22.

On Saturday 26th Portrush parkrun will be having a First Timers initiative , so if you have been meaning to give it a go but haven’t quite gotten round to it, this is an ideal opportunity. Parkrun tourists this weekend included: Larne Elaine Montgomery 30.07 at Larne and Alistair Shaw 21.05 at Carrickfergus.
