Russell is the Lord of the Lake

ON Friday night local triathlete Russell White showed his swimming ability in the annual Lord and Lady of the Lake challenge swim at Camlough’s Crooked Lake which consists of swimming the full length of the Lake.

This event, which Russell has won the past two years, has got much bigger and attracting a stronger field as it has become incorporated as part of the Camlough Water Festival.

Despite attracting a stronger field this year Russell continued to show his class as he stormed home in a blistering 28m 14secs for the 2.7Km swim, smashing his previous record of 30m flat.

Swimming is definitely Russell’s forte but this year especially whilst competing in international triathlons it has helped him gain many of his great results, as he was able to get into breakaways after the swim leg.

This result will give him a great confidence boost as he travels to Spain to compete Next Saturday in the European Under 23 Championships where he intends to use his swimming to boost his chances of finishing in the top 15 in order to qualify for the World Championships in Auckland New Zealand at the end of October.
