Ryan and Keady impress at Swiss tournament
FRIENDS’ School pupils Ryan Stewart and Keady Smith travelled to Switzerland recently to compete in an International badminton tournament as members of an Irish U19 Squad. Both pupils were going into this tournament one year young and certainly exceeded expectations.
Keady made the last 16 in the ladies doubles beating a strong side from Switzerland and narrowly missing out on a chance in the quarter-finals to the bronze medal winning pair.
Ryan made the last 32 of the men’s doubles losing tightly to an older more experienced French pair. Ryan and Keady later paired up for the mixed doubles winning their first match against a strong Italian pairing however in the last 32 they lost to an established German pair. The pupils had a fantastic experience and look forward to further success at representative level.
