Ryan bags BCC’s first win of 2012

The first victory for the highly successful Ballymoney Cycling Club comes from new signing Ryan Orr in the weekend’s XMTB/McConvey Cycles Off Road Spring Series.

Round 1 was at Ormeau Park in Belfast and as usual saw a great field of riders of all ages.

Ryan riding in the Under 16 section saw him up against top local schoolboy Aaron Swan, but the spoils this time going to Ryan with Aaron crashing in the heat of the battle.

Ryan is a very talented schoolboy who has been to the forefront in representing Cycling Ulster at the selected events in Ireland. Pulling on the green and white jersey in quite a few times now.

A very successful young rider at Under12/13/14 level, Ryan was advised to enquire about joining BCC Racing Team, where he was told he will get the top coaching and looking after that a young rider needs to develop and progress in the sport.

Ryan then signed for BCC at the start of 2012.

After his victory in the dirt and heavy conditions of Ormeau Park in the Under 16 race over the six laps, Ryan’s phone was red hot with his BCC team mates sending him messages of congratulations and welcoming him to the ranks of Ulster’s Club of the Year 2011. Ballymoney CC Racing Team and senior rider Jason Taggart, now competing as an A3 this season, welcomed Ryan and said that it is great to see young riders coming to BCC and representing the club at every age level up to junior.

Ballymoney CC chairman Charlie Dickson currently in Holland sent his congratulations last night to Ryan saying: “Ballymoney Cycling Club is about enjoyment and setting a standard for others to follow as they seem to do, we have this year got 15 riders with Full Cycling Ireland race licences and amongst that are 6 Youth riders from U12 to U16, we are building for the future and the youth are the future of our sport and the future of Ballymoney Cycling Club.
