Scott Jardine came into the Banbridge side for his first game of the season and played a significant role in the opening score.

The out-half made good yardage from an up and under and after Dromore had been forced into touch, he grubbered through from the line-out for winger Adam Stirling to score in the corner.

A great series of carries from Ross Semple and Ryan Patterson, the latter making only his second appearance after a 12-month lay-off, and good handling from Jardine, Geoff Thompson and Stephen Cowan, took play to a ruck 40 metres upfield from which Patterson drove over for the second try.

Jordan Mullan added the extras and converted a penalty awarded to the visitors soon after the re-start.

With the Bann three-quarters making the most of good quality possession, play was confined largely to Dromore territory for the remainder of the half. And although there were no further tries Mullan added two further penalties to give his side a 0-21 advantage at the break.

Despite now playing with the sun and wind in their faces, Bann continued to have the upper hand. A driving maul off a lineout gave Patterson his second try of the game before Jardine coolly landed a neat drop goal for a 29 point lead.

From the final play of the game, Dromore chased a kick ahead to grab a converted try.

Jardine’s return at No 10 together with the strength and athleticism of Patterson and Sinton’s work at the lineout were all significant factors in Bann’s success. But all starting XV, combined with a strong bench, played their parts in ensuring a second league win of the season for the Thirds.
