Ryder Cup turkey day at Rathmore

FOUR handicapper Ian Pritchard got measured, weighed, examined and assessed for his new Taylor Made irons and went straight out and proved their worth as he won the Ryder Cup Turkey competition on Sunday at Rathmore Golf Club.

Ian birdied the first and the fourth and while he double bogied the second finished the front nine with 21 points. His back nine was steadier with no birdies and, more importantly, no double bogies and he added another 18 for his total of 42.

Samuel Loughrey took second place by himself with 40 points off his 5 handicap. A birdie two at the third helped him along to nineteen points for the outward nine.

Further birdies were added with another two at eleven and a four at thirteen, adding 21 points for his total of 40. Four 39s followed on the scoresheet and it took countback right down to the final three holes to show that John Fall was third.

A fairly average seventeen points were logged for the front nine, but the eight handicapper was rock solid on the back nine covering it in level par for 22 points.

A great back nine for a countback situation. It moved Alistair Stewart to fourth spot, a birdie two at the fifteenth the highlight, with his 39. Two birdies on the way out, a four at the fourth and a three at the ninth, gave the five handicapper 20 points. Two more birdies, a three at fourteen and a two at fifteen, saw Mark add 19 points for fifth place.

Ten man Harry McMurtry was the final 39er. His birdie three at the second the highlight of the round, 21 out and 18 back.
