Saints go marching on

St Mary's 4

Moneyslane U16s 3

MONEYSLANE U16s travelled to Gordon Playing Fields, Lurgan at the weekend to play St Mary’s in the league and it was a game of two halves in which the home side were victorious.

Slane just didn’t come out the first half at all and were playing against a strong wind. The home side were pumping the long balls over the Slane defence to great effect.

The visitors were two goals down in half an hour but still had chances to score up the other end though they failed to capitalise.

It looked as if Slane were going to hold on to half time but St Mary’s were strong and scored two quick goals before the half.

Slane came out for the second half with the wind in their sails and pushed forward to good effect. Dickson and Boyd linked well and the latter crossed to Dickson who converted at the front post.

Slane were a dominate force and were guilty of missing too many easy chances in front of goal as shots rained wide and over. The second goal did come with 10 minutes on the clock and it was a deflected goal from the left back.

Then from a corner Bready converted to leave a tense last five minutes.

Dickson hit and the shot was heading for the top corner but the keeper tipped it over the bar.

Overall a game of two halves which Slane started very poorly in the first and totally dominated the second. Too many chances were missed in front of goal on the day and it’s a tough lesson for Slane who must bounce back next week against Newry City.
