Saloon stock car formula to make Ballymena Raceway debut this Friday

Stock Car racing returns to Ballymena Raceway on Friday evening (April 20) where a packed programme of races awaits motorsport fans with five different classes on display.

Making their first ever appearance at the Showgrounds venue will be the 1300 Saloon Stock Cars.

This formula has only been introduced to the province this season and has already proved popular with both drivers and spectators alike.

Current Junior Rod Irish Champion Sean McFerran from Portglenone has made the switch into the new class along with other Raceway regulars such as Cullybackey’s Ryan Wright and David Reynolds from Ballymena and their experience of the Raceway tack should stand all three in good stead for Friday evening,

Friday’s fixture also includes the opening round of the DK Series for the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars. Track Champion Conor Hughes from Antrim swept to victory last time out at Raceway, with Denver Grattan, Craig McConnell, William Murray and Andrew Stewart also figuring strongly on that occasion.

Junior Rods and Group Two Lightning Rods are also on the card this weekend. Portglenone’s Aidan McFerran raced away with the Junior Rod silverware at Easter in his rapid Vauxhall Corsa, but faces some stiff opposition in the shape of Jaimie McCurdy, Dean McCrory, Bradley McKinstry, Peter Greer and Aaron Moody who are all capable of challenging for honours.

Cullybackey lad Curtis Greer has been driving particularly well in the Group Two class with 4 wins to his name already. Noel Hazlett, Stewart Nicholl and final winner last time out Adrian Hillis will be in the thick of the action, along with local father and son team Uel and Aaron McMillan.

The programme is completed by Round 2 of the Super League Series for the Open Hot Rods, with the first race in the Ballymena Showgrounds commencing at 7:15pm.
