Sam leads the way in MUSA

THE second round of the Mid-Ulster Senior Alliance was played last Wednesday.

Brian Mulholland, team captain, was hoping that his team could improve on what was a very untidy first round effort.

They did just that and the hero of the hour was veteran Sam Wilkinson. He played remarkable golf and topped the poll with 37 points.

Seamus McGrath was also striking the ball well and he scored 35 points.

Brian Mulholland eased his way to 34 points and the final counting score came from John Poots, with 31 points.

Bobby Geddis and Harry Shannon both had 31 points but lost out on countback.

The scores from Morris Phillips and Verdun Bond didn’t count on this occasion.

A team total of 137, ten better than round one, lifted Banbridge up to eighth place on the league table.

Round three will be played at Lisburn on Monday 11th June.

It’s onwards and upwards from this point forward.

The top four teams after two rounds are Portadown (284), Lisburn (279), Downpatrick (278) and Tandragee (277).

There is a lot of golf to be played from now until the grand final at Ardglass on Tuesday September 18.
