Sarsfields begin their season at St. John’s

Sarsfields will begin their 2014 season with an away game this Sunday in the senior section of the Ulster League against St. John’s from Belfast

The Johnnies will provide stiff opposition for the ‘Trasna outfit who finished last season in a top four spot in Division 1. Although St. Gall’s have dominated the Antrim Club scene since 2000, St. John’s are still out in front on the ‘roll of honour’ having won 24 senior titles compared to St. Gall’s 12. Following their Ulster League opener Sarsfields will host Derry club Steelstown on Sunday February 9th.

Also in the Trasna clubs section are Tyrone outfit Ardboe, County Down side Bryansford and Doohamlet from Monaghan who ironically beat the High Moss in the Ulster Club Intermediate series in 2010 who at the time were managed by current Armagh assistant manager Peter McDonnell.

With last weekends Doctor McKenna Cup final between Tyrone and Cavan postponed due to the poor weather, there are concerns over some of this weekends Ulster League ties also being called off.
