Scarva are comeback kings at Tullyvallen

Tullyvallen Reserves 2

Scarva Rangers Reserves 3

A RESILIENT display from Scarva’s reserve side rescued victory from the jaws of defeat in Newtownhamilton last Wednesday night.

The visitors faced a barrage of high balls in a first half dominated by the home side.

The pressure took its toll as Tullyvallen raced into a two goal lead. It looked like it was going to be a long evening for Scarva and a joyless journey home.

But they managed to grab a very important goal before the half time interval. A dangerous Danny Cullen free kick was headed goalwards by Mo Brown and when his effort was saved the player manager reacted sharply to stab the loose ball home.

Half-time gave Scarva the chance to re-organise and they were an improved side in the second half.

The midfield quartet of Baird, Brown, McKelvey and McNeill worked diligently to peg the home side back and the visitors started to make life more uncomfortable for the Tullyvallen Reserve defence.

The pitch was also a factor, with Tullyvallen unable to carry the same attacking threat playing up the slope.

Danny Cullen’s delivery from free kicks was of the highest quality and another set piece from the left back paved the way for the equaliser, which was headed emphatically home by Alex Hammond.

The evening got even better for Scarva Rangers Reserves when an incisive Freddie McKelvey pass carved the home defence wide open and leading goalscorer Gary Dodds lofted the ball over the helpless home keeper to complete an impressive comeback.

Best for Scarva Rangers Reserves were Danny Cullen, Alex Hammond and Mo Brown.

Last Tuesday night the first team were defeated 3-0 in Portadown by Ambassadors.
