Scarva Rangers in seventh heaven

Tullyvallen are one of Scarva’s longest established adversaries and the locals have endured some afternoons to forget at the hands of the side from South Armagh.

But this was a day to savour for Rangers and their supporters. It started in an explosion of joy as they soared into a swift three goal lead.

The scoring was opened by Rod Douglas who met a corner with an unstoppable header. A corner also paved the way for Scarva’s second goal of the game minutes later. This time it was an emphatic header from Dean McCammon that sent the ball crashing into the back of the Tullyvallen net.

Greg Douglas completed Scarva’s stellar opening with a third goal and there was still only ten minutes on the clock.

Later in the half a pass from Douglas found David Dillon in space and he picked out Neil Anderson, whose thunderous shot was well saved by the Tullyvallen keeper.

With Dean McCammon rushing in, his scrambled clearance fell at the feet of Dillon and the midfielder drove the ball into the back of the net to give the hosts a four goal lead.

McCammon raced on to a Colin Brown through ball but the Tullyvallen keeper was out smartly to smother the danger.

He then saved from Douglas and pushed a Dillon shot away for a corner. Jennett swung the corner kick precisely into the area and a Neil Anderson shot was cleared off the goal line.

There was to be no respite for the visitors after the half-time interval. David Dillon rose to meet a Greg Douglas cross and gave the home side a 5-0 lead.

At the other end David Morton charged down a dangerous shot from the visitors and the ball spiralled over the crossbar for a corner.

The Tullyvallen keeper had twice saved impressively to deny Neil Anderson but was helpless when Greg Douglas picked up possession from Kyle Jennett and sent a low cross into the heart of the penalty area where Mark Baird was on hand to fire the ball home.

A long range curling shot from Greg Douglas was turned around the post by the overworked Tullyvallen keeper and from the resulting corner an effort from Dean McCammon was cleared off the goal line.

Greg Douglas ensured a scintillating afternoon for Rangers ended on a high note, embarking on a purposeful run and sending the ball rocketing high into the left hand corner of the net.
