Scenic route for Seapark runners at Murlough Bay

A group of 15 athletes from Seapark AC headed to Newcastle on Friday to compete in Born to Run’s scenic Sea to Sky 10k race.

This multi-terrain route saw runners climb for 5k to take in beautiful views across Murlough Bay before descending back into Newcastle, finishing on the promenade.

Results: Robert Murray 47.30, Colin McCrum 50.00, Peter Rusk 50.36, Mark Welsh 52.14, Johnathon Bell 52.14, Karen Poag 55.48, Angela McCormick 56.58, Neill Harper 57.24, Alison Welsh 1.05, Glenda Murray 1.06, Michael Kane 1.06, Ann McCracken 1.08, Rebecca Tester 1.10, Karen McMaster 1.11 and Tony Barclay 1.15.

On Friday evening, Seapark’s Bobbie Irvine, Gillian Barnhill and Gary Connolly undertook an epic endurance event, the Energia 24-hour race held at the Mary Peters Track.

This annual event challenges athletes to cover the longest distance in 24 hours. Bobbie Irvine came 14th out of 52 individuals covering a distance of 109.4 miles (440 laps). Gillian Barnhill ran 101.2 miles (407 laps) and was third lady. Gary Connolly ran 77 miles (310 laps).

On Saturday, Richard Hethrington ran the Dervock Half Marathon along with Caroline Salters and Gillian Strudwick. This proved to be a hilly and challenging course for the athletes.

Results: Richard Hethrington 1.42, Caroline Salters 1.52 and Gillian Strudwick 2.02.
