The first real chance fell for the home side when a good break down the right hand side led to a great cross being headed narrowly wide by Ryan Monaghan.

Meanwhile the visitors had started to force a bit more pressure but Rathfriland’s back four of Jackson, Murray, Groves and Megaw were all playing well and limited the visitors to long range efforts that never troubled the home side.

The second half started with the home side in control of the game and this pattern would remain for the rest of the match with wave after wave of pressure coming.

First it was Mackin who cut in from the left and his snap shot was well saved and when the rebound fell to Toal he also worked the Ballynahinch keeper.

The chance fell to a Paul Gibbons who was unlucky to see his header being tipped over the bar after a good freekick from Groves.

Rathfriland’s best chance came when Mackin was played through and he rounded the keeper but left himself too acute of and angle and his shot cannoned off the post.

Overall this was a good performance from Rathfriland although they will feel they deserved more from the match.
