Scorpion boxers are back to winning ways

SCORPION Boxing Club got their season off to a perfect start last week by taking two Ulster crowns in the Nine County Novice Championships.

The Ballymoney club entered three fighters into the event - Gerard Loughran, Michael Coyles and Martin McAlister.

And McAlister and Coyles returned to the town as champions, with Gerard edged out in a tight final.

McAlister's victory was particularly impressive given it was the 11-year-old's first competition.

He fought his way through from the quarter-final and was outstanding in the final, winning 7-0 in the 31kg division.

Coyles (12) was also impressive in the 60kg category and Loughran (12) was unlucky to be on the end of a 3-0 reverse in the 31kg section.

Scorpion coach Alan Martin told Times Sport: "This was the first competition of the season for ourselves and we're delighted with how the boys did.

"As last while we are winning championships at every event we enter which is great for the club and the area as a whole."
