Scorpion get ready to showcase their skills

BALLYMONEY'S Scorpion Boxing Club are staging a special night to showcase the sport.

The highlight of the evening will be an 18 bout exhibition which will see local boxers pit their wits against those from other clubs, including a number of Irish champions, and each other.

There will also be training demonstrations showing a number of the fundamental aspects of the sport including pad work.

Scorpion is one of north Antrim's biggest success stories, consistently raking in titles at county, provincial and national level.

Interest in the club continues to soar and the club boasts 62 members at present, many of them championship winning fighters.

Head coach Alan Martin said the showcase event at St Patrick's Hall, Ballymoney on Friday 11 February was the ideal chance for the public to take in at first hand the good work being done at Scorpion.

He also welcomed anyone with an interest in taking up boxing to come along.

Tickets are just 5 for adults, kids 2.50 with proceeds going towards the club. Doors open from 8pm.

Then, a week later the annual Ballintoy Fight Night at the Carrick-a-rede Hotel has been scheduled for Friday 18 February.

A bumper crowd is expected again for the event which is always hugely popular.

Meanwhile, Scorpion won three titles at the Co Antrim Novices last week.

Seamus McAlister (52kg), Karol Dulugouz (86kg) and Michael McAlister (50kg) came out tops while Michael Coyles and Brian McAlister were both unlucky to suffer narrow 2-1 defeats in their respective finals.
